The Houston Astros look to derail a red-hot Texas Rangers team that has already victimized them on their current winning streak. The game is the first in a three-game series. First pitch is at 8:05 PM ET.
The Texas Rangers (44-28, 26-11 home) are currently on an 11-game winning streak, the longest in the majors so far this season. They needed a ninth-inning two-out RBI single from Vladimir Guerrero in Pittsburgh last night to keep the streak alive.
The Rangers have relied on their offense to win games for them this season. They are in the top five in the majors in runs, hits and OPS and are tied for the lead in batting average.
Josh Hamilton leads the Rangers offense with a .622 slugging percentage, a 1.010 OPS, a .345 batting average and 17 home runs.
The Houston Astros (28-45, 12-21 away) were swept by Texas just one week ago and, considering how well Texas is playing right now, should be happy if they are able to avoid a second sweep. They trail the Cardinals by 12.5 games in the NL Central.
The Astros offense is, simply put, the worst in the majors. They are last in batting average, OPS hits and home runs.
They are on a bit of a hot streak at the moment after taking two straight from the Giants. They managed 13 runs in the two games.
Starting for the Rangers will be Colby Lewis (7-4, 3.07 ERA). Lewis has won his last two starts including a nine strike-out two-hitter last time out against Houston.
Brian Moehler (0-4, 5.86 ERA) gets the start for Houston in a repeat pitching match-up from last week. Moehler took the loss after giving up a two-run home run, but he threw pretty well as that was the only hit he gave up in six innings of work.
